What experts don’t (but really do) tell you about intuitive eating

There are some wonderful books out about intuitive eating.
Intuitive Eating by Tribole
Rules of Normal Eating by Koenig
Seven Secrets of Slim People by Hansen
Diets Don’t Work by Schwartz
Breaking Free From Emotional Eating by Roth
Overcoming Overeating by Hirschmann and Munter
These books and many more are great. Written from the author’s perspective, they tell us of their experiences, or their research, and often they give very good tips on recovery.
It’s easy to get involved in the books, and enjoy the reading as well as the learning. It’s also easy to miss the most important thing: that your recovery is up to you. Their book and method will never be perfect for you, because it’s their method, not yours. Yet, in one way or another, all of these authors do say that you own your recovery.
Once I accepted that I own my recovery, and knew the basics of normal eating, the Diets Don’t Work book worked best for me, coupled with the Rule of Normal Eating. DDW did a gret job of taking me through the mental steps, and the Rules gave me a picture of my future state. From that, I build my own recovery. Mine alone.
