Reaching deep in my soul, eyes closed, at peace, calmly reflective.
What I’ve achieved:
-
Enough of my financial goals
-
Enough of my career goals
-
Enough of my family goals
What keeps bugging me? My weight and inability to change it quickly. Remember the principles of fast, easy or permanent? I’m pushing for faster weight loss, but I don’t have a great sense for how to choose the right things to do. It seems that I will just have to experiment until I find the improvement I want.
I thought earlier this week that I could just keep going along my relaxed path, but I see now that it’s not given me quite the results I want, although it has improved. What I’ve achieved so far:
-
More vegetables
-
Fewer potatoes
-
More fruit
What I still want:
-
Less snacking
-
Smaller portions
-
More getting on with life without eating
-
More exercising
What will it take to get there? I already know I cannot just “power through” the reduced portions, I need to do it gradually. Of course, I don’t know how to do it, so the best place to start is by observing my behaviors, and the thoughts associated with them. Permanent changes require changes in thinking.
I don’t know what I don’t know, so I will start by writing down what I do and what I’m thinking when I do it.
Right now? I’m watching a film and writing this, but it’s lunch time. I ate breakfast late and relatively large, so hunger is not likely to be strong. What am I thinking? That I want to/ought to eat anyway, since I will eat lunch no matter what.
Wham. The dvd froze up, so I had to reboot. During the reboot time, my thinking got reset, and I lost that urge to eat lunch now and big. I could actually imagine eating a smaller lunch instead of normal size. Now I’m thinking I’ve got a cheese roll that “needs” to be eaten before Saturday, which would increase my lunch size again. Sort of a cheese roll obsession, I guess. Time to correct my thinking again.
Finishing the roll is not very important compared to my goals. Eating a big lunch is not important to my day. Having a fun day is important to me. Reaching my goals is important to me. I think it’s about time to declare victory over the cheese roll obsession and make my roll-free lunch.
